Geography books say water has a high heat capacity, but if you think that means the seaside in Shenzhen won’t get too hot, you’re in for a surprise.
It’s not just the sweat soaking you like rain; the real story is even worse!
Do you really think summers in Shenzhen are that easy to deal with? Here’s a little story to show you what a Shenzhen summer is really like!
Yesterday I went to the seaside with Da Meisha, a long-time crush. Before leaving the house I put on some makeup, and, feeling especially pretty, put on a pair of flip-flops and headed out.
As soon as I got on the subway, a dense wall of hot hair washed over my face. http://www.hanbridgemandarin.com/blog/?p=145 http://www.hanbridgemandarin.com/blog/?p=145 http://www.hanbridgemandarin.com/blog/?p=145But as soon as I caught sight of him, my mood turned bright again. Before leaving I had washed my hair just for the occasion, and now—duang!—it just looked gorgeous! Surely he would immediately fall in love with me! Right that time the handsome boy said hello to me, I was extremely excited. He told me that he was going to learn Mandarin in Shenzhen mainly to learn Chinese daily conversation.
It had only been an hour since the shower, and he said to me, “What’s this? Special effects?”
But that was no big deal. We were going to the beach anyway, and the wind would blow my hair back to beauty…right?
But a half hour later, I was driven nearly to tears!
Today I had applied my makeup so carefully, and now look at me! I tried to comfort myself, to build up my self-confidence: the makeup job doesn’t look so bad!
But when I got to the beach, that’s when I really lost it. Da Meisha, are you messing with me? You said there would be a refreshing breeze at the beach! You said it would be a world of romance, just for the two of us!
And don’t think the story ends here. The real end of the story is this: my skin was burned black by the sun, burned to a crisp. Fair skin covers a hundred blemishes, but a sunburn ruins it all.
One last thing: summer in Shenzhen starts in April and goes all the way to November!
