When you take a business trip for the first time, you may want to know the following words and expressions related to hotel conversation and meeting with clients. These will help you a lot!
It’s common when doing business in China to give and receive name cards when you first meet someone. However, you must make sure to obey this three basic rules: 1. The highest ranking person presents his/her card first. 2. Give and receive cards using both hands. 3. Ensure the card is turned towards the receiver.
Now, let’s learn how to present your name card in Chinese. Using both hands to present, you can say, “Nín hǎozhè shì wǒ de míng piàn’ 您好,这是我的名片meaning, ”Hello, this is my name card”). When you receive the other person’s card, you can say, “Xièxie, hěn gāo xìng rèn shí nín” 谢谢, 很高兴认识您 meaning, “Thank you, nice to meet you.”
Hotels in China often require hotel guests to check out before noon. Chinese hotels will ask for a deposit upon check-in. The amount will vary depending on different hotels’ requirements. Also, know that what the Chinese call the first floor is not the ground floor. It is the floor above the ground floor. (This is different from the US, for instance, where the ground floor is called the first floor.)
