How to Introduce People and Company in Chinese

1. Introduce yourself

When you introduce yourself or other people in Chinese, the accepting and presenting the name card, what Westerner’s usually call a business card,demands more attention than in Western countries. First, make sure to obey these three basic rules: 1. The highest ranking people exchange cards first; 2. give and receive cards using both hands; and 3. ensure the card is turned towards the receiver.

Next, let’s learn what to say in Chinese while presenting and receiving a name card.

- Using both hands to present, you can say:

您好，这是我的名片。
Nín hǎo zhè shì wǒ de míng piàn.
Hello, this is my name card.

- When you receive other person’s name card, you can say:

谢谢, 很高兴认识您。
Xiè xie, hěn gāo xìng rèn shí nín.
Thank you, nice to meet you.

- Or if you don’t have your name card with you at the moment, you can say

对不起，我还没有名片，下次给您可以吗？
Duì bu qǐ, wǒ hái méi yǒu míng piàn, xià cì gěi nín kě yǐ ma？
Sorry, I don’t have a name card yet. May I give it you at the next meeting?

2. Introduce other people

When introducing your colleague or superior, you can always use this sentence structure:

这位是+名字，公司的+职位。
Zhè wèi shì + name, gōng sī de + job position.

For example:

这位是张力，公司的销售经理。
Zhè wèi shì Zhāng lì, gōng sī de xiāo shòu jīng lǐ.
This is Zhang Li, sales manager of the company.
